Borsato -- Boulevardier 138 The Pensioner 906 Figurine ( Item # 44569 )
Another exquisite Antonio Borsato Porcelain Figurine with this being "Boulevardier" #138 or "The Pensioner" #906.
Again, the detail on this Borsato is almost beyond belief:  Nicely dressed gentlemen sitting on a bench with his legs crossed and holding his pipe.  Umbrella hanging on the  bench with a newspaper lying on the seat next to him and a small bag of grapes.  Two birds with one on the bench and one near his feet.  At the rear of the bench is a tree trunk with a small branch coming straight up and a smaller bird sitting on this branch.
It just doesn't get much better than this Borsato figurine.  I consider Borsato to be one of the the best, if not the best, sculptor in Europe from the mid 1960's till his death in 1982.

Borsato -- Old Man and Goat Figurine 521B ( Item # 44866 )
Very affordable Borsato "Old Man and Goat" Porcelain Figurine #521B.
Not the curly grey beard on the old guy.  Also, the pipe in his mouth, the cane and the red hankerchief in his back pocket.  The goat seems to be outpacing the old man.
This figurine in excellent contion with no chips or cracks.  It measure 8 inches in height, 5 inches deep, and 5 inches wide.
Antonio Borsato is known and loved for his porcelains. He is arguably the finest porcelain sculptor of the 20th Century. The world lost a great artist when Antonio Borsato was killed in an auto accident in 1982. Borsato worked endlessly to make each creation a melody of color and movement. Borsato originals are sculptured in the full-round with no blank surfaces, with the entire piece completely hand colored with brilliant artistry. All stages were attended to by Antonio Borsato himself. It is assuring to note that no Borsato was in mass production. Borsato is known as the Michelangelo of the 20th Century. His works are displayed in the Vatican, museums, and many significant private collections. He studied under the great Cacciapuoti early on, but many believe he far surpassed his mentor, becoming the greatest of the Capo-Di-Monte genre. Borsato works of art are irreplaceable just as are the works of other Old Masters. His impeccable faithful adherence to detail, a wisp of hair, facial expression, even eyelashes, gestures, whimsical humor, anatomical perfection, combine to endow each of Borsato’s works with breathing realism. A Borsato art treasure is an exquisite masterpiece to be cherished as an heirloom for future generations.

Borsato -- Sharpener's Audience Porcelain Figurine 142 ( Item # 45160 )
Rare & Equisite Borsato Porcelain Figurine this being the "Sharpener's Audience" or Knife Grinder #142.
First produced in the early 1970's.
The young boy is watching his father grind a knife while he appears to be eating a small loaf of bread.
Very unique detail of the grinder with a metal knife in his hand and a pump petal at his right foot.  A pulley (string) then is attached to the grinder shaft and the wheel. Next to his hand is a tank for water to go onto the grinder wheel and this has a metal spout attached to it. The shaft on the metal grinder is also metal.
Behind the boy is an axe which I suppose is ready to be sharpened.  This ax is also metal. A bottle of vino or water is inside the mans jacket hanging on the grinder cart.  Finally, the dog is snoozing between the two of them.  Overall, a most unique piece.
Note the expression on the grinders face as well as the serene look on the boys face.   Measuring 8 inches in height, 8 inches in width and 7 inches deep.  This figurine is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
Think of the time it took to scuplt this figure from clay, then make the many molds to accept the slip.  Then extract these invidual pieces from the molds and assemble then on the base along with the inserted metal pieces.  Next the figurine is fired.  After that it is hand painted which is going to take a good part of the day and fired again.  Lastly, the glaze is added and it is fired a last time.  This piece has a little higher gloss for the glaze than most Borsato figures.
This firgurine sold for over $150 in 1969 which would be the equivant of $2400 in todays dollars.  We have it here for $995.  No box.

For the true Hummel Collector is this earliest Hummel "Goose Girl" #41 3/0 from 1935 to 1940 with a true Crown Mark and very hard to find.

The Goose Girl was one of early popular pieces from Goebel.  The geese want the flowers that the little girl is hiding behind her back -- notice the upside down bunch of flowers behind her back.
Great collector figurine. Note the one pigtail on her right side.  This is not evident on later Goose Girl figurines.

This plaque has no chips or cracks but does have some crazing on the front surface above the horses.
Normally we would sell this plaque for $75, however, because of the crazing we have lowered the price to $50.  The crazing is only noticeable up close and not from a couple feet away.

Information on Whitsuntide Holiday:
"Whit Monday or Pentecost Monday (also known as Monday of the Holy Spirit) is the holiday celebrated the day after Pentecost, a movable feast in the Christian calendar. It is movable because it is determined by the date of Easter.
Whit Monday gets its English name for following "Whitsun", the day that became one of the three baptismal seasons. The name "Whitsunday" is now generally attributed to the white garments formerly worn by the candidates for baptism on this feast."
"Until 1973, Whit Monday was a public holiday in Ireland. It was a bank holiday in the United Kingdom until 1967. It was formally replaced by the fixed Spring Bank Holiday on the last Monday in May in 1971[1]. It was also a public holiday in various former British colonies, especially in the Pacific. It is still a public holiday in some of the countries of the Commonwealth Caribbean.
The Monday after Pentecost is also a holiday in Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Romania, Switzerland, and several Scandinavian countries. In many of these countries, Whit Monday is known as "the second day of Pentecost" or "the second Whitsun". In France, it was a non-pay work day for many workers from 2005 to 2007. This was to raise extra funds for elderly and disabled people [2]. It became a public holiday again in 2008 [3]. In Liechtenstein, Whit Monday is considered to be a "favorite holiday"; much like Christmas in many other countries. In Germany, Whit Monday (German: Pfingstmontag) is a Holy Day of Obligation for Roman Catholics.[4]"

OGoebel Hummel -- Wishes Come True 2025A Figurine ( Item # 30476 )
Look at the detail in this extraordinary figurine -- "Wishes Come True" # 2025A by Goebel. TMK-8
Every single small piece had to come out of a separate mold and be hand attached, then smoothed together, then fired in a kiln, then hand painted and fired a last time.
Unbelieveable detail in this porcelain figurine with the boy sitting on the steps holding a box from which came his puppet or doll.  The girl holding her teddy bear while the cat watches on from the stair railing.  Next to the boy a small ball.   A must for the avid Hummel collector.

Tom Clark Thimble Figurine - Pearl ( Item # 41564 )
One of my favorites and a duplicate in my collection is "Pearl".  Possibly because she carries my jewelry theme so well with her strand of pearls.  She is a Tom Clark Gnome figurine by Cairn Studios and measures 4" high. Intricately and uniquely carved, she sits on a barrel with her knitting needles and pearl jewelry finery with a thimble hat. She is signed and numbered - a lot of it I cannot read and I'm sure she has been propertly retired in the collection of these fascinating figurines.  They've held my heart for many years and I love them all !  {msg2}
